Planning Disposable Towels for a Hotel Guest Room

A hotel order is usually placed as a monthly quantity against a room count. The quantity is rarely the problem. The problem is that three different variables get collapsed into one number, and when the order runs short nobody can say which of the three moved.

The three variables, and who owns each

The first is the room count, which the hotel owns. The second is how many pieces one room change consumes, which the hotel's own standard owns. The third is how often a change happens, which the occupancy pattern owns. Multiply the three and you have a monthly piece count. We do not publish a consumption rate for a guest room, because a business hotel at high occupancy and a resort with a pool have nothing in common on that figure, and a benchmark would only hide the difference.

    Where the specification enters

Pieces per room change is a specification decision as much as an operational one. A bath towel at 70 × 140 cm and 60 GSM is a different piece from one at 80 × 150 cm and 130 GSM, and the second fills a carton differently, so the same room count produces a different freight profile. Face towels follow the same logic across the two recorded series: the 20 cm pop-up bag and the 30 cm quarter-folded box are not interchangeable in a bathroom, and the fold decides which one a housekeeper can actually use from a trolley.

The format question a hotel actually faces

Bath towels are recorded as folded bulk at lengths of 100 to 150 cm and widths of 60 to 80 cm, at 40 to 130 GSM. Folded bulk is the cheapest per piece and the least protected, which is fine for a stacked linen room and less fine for a property that moves stock between floors. Where a guest-facing presentation matters, the individually wrapped towel and bath-towel records exist as a separate format, with one piece per sealed unit and the wrapper specified separately from the towel.

What to write into the enquiry

Give the supplier four lines rather than one: the room count, the piece count per room change with the sizes named, the expected changes per month, and the pack format. That is enough to quote, and it is also enough to re-quote later when one of the three variables changes, because each is visible on its own.

What the record does not cover

Nothing in our product data states how many towels a guest room needs, and no absorbency or drying figure is recorded for the bath range. Those are operational and performance questions, and the performance part is settled on a sample against the property's own test.

Recorded bath and face towel dimensions are on disposable bath towels and disposable face towels; the wider property workflow is described under hotel towel collection.
