Bath Towel Size and GSM: Working Out Coverage First
Bath-towel specifications fail in one of two ways: the towel is too small to wrap around an adult, or it is the right size and too light to do anything with the water. Size and GSM are usually quoted separately, and they only make sense together.
The recorded range
Bath towels are recorded at lengths of 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 or 150 cm and widths of 60, 70 or 80 cm, at 40 to 130 GSM, packed as folded bulk. A listed length and width are not a promise that every pairing exists; the combination is confirmed per project. The individually packed bath-towel record uses the same width set with lengths extended to 160 cm.
Length and width do different jobs
Width decides whether the towel closes around a body. At 60 cm a towel reaches across an adult torso and no further; at 80 cm it overlaps. Length decides how much of the body is covered: 100 cm covers from shoulder to mid-thigh on most adults, and 150 cm reaches further down the leg. Neither number can compensate for the other, which is why a "large bath towel" description without both measurements is not a specification.
Area times GSM is the number that matters
The fibre weight of one piece is its area multiplied by its GSM. A 70 × 140 cm towel is 0.98 m². At 60 GSM that is 0.98 × 60, about 59 g of fibre per towel. At 130 GSM it is 0.98 × 130, about 127 g — more than double, on exactly the same dimensions. Two towels that measure the same on a tape and weigh 59 g and 127 g do not perform the same job, and no amount of size discussion closes that gap.
The same arithmetic applies downward. A 60 × 100 cm towel is 0.6 m², or 36 g at 60 GSM. For a spa where the towel is a lap cover rather than a drying towel, that may be the correct specification; for a hotel pool where it has to dry a person, it is unlikely to be.
Where the weight lands
Heavier bath towels consume more container space per piece, and the folded-bulk pack means the unit count is confirmed per project rather than fixed by a box. That makes bath-towel freight sensitive to two variables at once — the GSM and the agreed unit count — which is why the carton figure should be part of the quotation and not a post-order detail.
What the record does not say
The bath-towel records do not carry an absorbency figure, a drying-time figure or a softness rating. Those are performance questions, and they are settled on a sample against the buyer's own test, not by reading a size and a GSM off a page.
Recorded dimensions and weights are on the disposable bath towels page; the individually wrapped version is under individually packed disposable towels.
