Hotel Pool and Changing Area Towels: A Separate Specification
Hotels that specify their guest-room towels carefully often leave the pool area on the same purchase order and then wonder why it behaves differently. The pool towel has a different life: it is issued at a counter, used by a person who is wet rather than dry, returned in a heap, and counted against a bather rather than a room.
Plan from bather capacity, not room count
A pool order scales with capacity and turns, not with keys. The variables are the number of bathers the area is licensed for, the number of towels each bather takes per visit, and the visits per day. Multiply those three and you have a daily issue figure. As with the guest room, we do not publish a benchmark rate for this — the property's own counter records are a better input than any published average, and they already exist if towels are signed out.
Size and weight for a wet body
A pool towel has to do one job: get a wet person dry enough to walk inside. That pushes toward the upper end of the recorded bath-towel range rather than the middle. Recorded lengths run 100 to 150 cm and widths 60 to 80 cm at 40 to 130 GSM. A 70 × 140 cm towel at 60 GSM is about 59 g of fibre; the same dimensions at 130 GSM are about 127 g. For a poolside towel, the second is the specification that survives a wet body, and the first is the one that gets complained about.
The issue format is the real cost driver
Pool towels walk away. The format that reduces loss is the one that makes the towel attributable: an individually wrapped unit signals a fresh towel and is harder to treat as a loose item, while folded bulk is the cheapest format per piece and the easiest to lose. This is not a moral question about guests; it is a counting question about a counter. Where a property issues bulk towels, the loss appears as a consumption figure with no explanation, and the order grows without anyone being able to say why.
Wet return is a handling question
A returned wet towel goes to a laundry or a bin, and the format decides how it travels. Folded bulk towels compress into a hamper; individually wrapped units have to be opened before they can be compressed, which is a staff-time cost that does not appear on the towel invoice. Properties that have moved to disposable pool towels usually resolve this by issuing at the counter and collecting in an open bin, not by changing the towel.
What to put in the enquiry
Bather capacity, towels per bather per visit, visits per day, the size and GSM you want tested, and the issue format. That is a quotable specification, and it separates the pool order from the room order so the two can be reviewed independently.
Recorded bath-towel dimensions are on the disposable bath towels page; individually wrapped issuing is under individually packed disposable towels.
