What Three Third-Party Tests Show About a 100% Viscose Face Towel

Measured results from GB/T 40276-2021 testing, a 30-person human patch test and a 14-day repeated intact-skin irritation test on one 100% viscose face towel sample.

Direct answer: one dry disposable face towel sample, identified in Jaroll's 2023 project specification as a 100% viscose (rayon) towel body, passed all reported GB/T 40276-2021 items. In additional cosmetic-use safety testing, 0 of 30 human participants showed an adverse skin reaction after a closed patch test, and a 14-day repeated intact-skin irritation test produced an irritation index of 0 and a conclusion of non-irritating under the reported conditions.

Evidence scope: these results apply to the submitted sample and the stated test conditions. The reports identify the product, production date, size and appearance, but do not include an independent fibre-composition analysis. The 100% viscose composition is manufacturer project information, not a laboratory finding in these three reports.

Why did Jaroll add skin tests beyond the soft nonwoven towel standard?

GB/T 40276-2021 covers soft nonwoven towels made from textile fibres for cleaning human skin. Human patch testing and repeated intact-skin irritation testing were not among the items listed in the product-standard report reviewed for this project. The cosmetics customer required those extra tests because the towel would be used in a cosmetic-care setting.

Jaroll treated the use scenario as part of the specification review. The submitted towel was tested first for product-standard performance and then under two additional skin-contact protocols. This project-specific approach is more useful than assuming that one standard answers every buyer's risk question.

    What were the measured results?

What did the human patch test examine?

The human study followed the 2015 Cosmetics Safety Technical Specification, Chapter 7, Section 2, as cited in the report. The 30 participants included 4 men and 26 women, aged 19 to 37 years, with a mean age of 26.4 ± 4.3 years. The sample stayed in a closed patch chamber on the forearm for 24 hours.

After removal, investigators scored the skin at 0.5, 24 and 48 hours. Every participant received a score of 0 at all three observations. The report therefore recorded 0 adverse reactions among 30 participants.

What did the 14-day repeated irritation test examine?

The repeated intact-skin study used the method cited as GB 15979-2002, Annex A. A saline-moistened 2.5 cm × 2.5 cm sample contacted intact skin for 4 hours per day over 14 consecutive days. Investigators scored erythema and oedema 24 hours after each exposure.

Across 3 animals and 14 days, every reported erythema, oedema and total score was 0. The mean daily score per animal was 0, which falls in the report's non-irritating classification range of 0 to less than 0.5.

What can buyers conclude from these results?

The evidence supports a specific conclusion: the submitted 100% viscose face towel sample met the reported GB/T 40276-2021 items, produced no observed adverse reaction in the 30-person patch test, and was classified as non-irritating in the 14-day repeated intact-skin test under the stated methods.

The evidence does not prove that every viscose towel, every production batch or every user will have the same outcome. It is not a medical claim, a hypoallergenic guarantee, a cosmetic-product approval or a substitute for market-specific compliance review. Buyers should match any report to the final composition, SKU, production controls and intended use.

How does Jaroll plan testing for cosmetic-use towel projects?

Jaroll begins with the final product specification and the buyer's use scenario. For a standard dry face towel, the product standard may define the base test plan. For cosmetic-care, sensitive-contact or other higher-scrutiny projects, Jaroll can discuss additional test items, sample identity and acceptance criteria before production.

This is the practical value of a specification-led process: the test plan follows the actual product and use case, and every public conclusion stays within the evidence recorded for the tested sample.

    Frequently asked questions

Are human patch and repeated irritation tests required by GB/T 40276-2021?

Not in the product-standard report reviewed for this project. They were additional tests requested for a cosmetics-use scenario and evaluated under separately cited methods.

Does 0 reactions in 30 people mean no person can ever react?

No. It means no adverse reaction was observed among these 30 participants at the three reported observation times. Individual sensitivity and different formulations, contaminants or use conditions can change risk.

Do these reports independently prove the towel is 100% viscose?

No. The 100% viscose composition comes from Jaroll's project specification. The three reports reviewed here did not include a fibre-composition analysis.

What should a buyer request for a new face-towel project?

Request a written composition and product specification, confirm that the report matches the proposed SKU or sample, define the intended skin-contact scenario, and agree any additional test methods and acceptance criteria before production.

    Evidence record

Jaroll reviewed three signed third-party reports issued in March 2023: GTTC report 230019338M0, human patch report KAS23E00132*1 and repeated intact-skin irritation report KAS23N00258*1. The reports state that results are valid for the tested sample. GB/T 40276-2021 is listed as current on the National Public Service Platform for Standards Information.
